DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols women's basketball team ran away from the University of Maine at Fort Kent thanks in part to 36 points coming off 42 UMFK turnovers in a 88-56 victory on Thursday night at the Nichols Athletic Center. Nichols jumped to 6-12 (4-7 CCC) on the season while the Bengals dropped to 0-8.
All 17 active players for the Bison recorded at least two points.
Nichols led for 19:35 of the first half, using a 15-point performance from
Abrianna Vazquez. Nichols took a 51-18 lead into the halftime break after leading by as much as 37 in the first half. UMFK turned the ball over 30 times in the opening two quarters, leading to 26 Bison points.
In the second half, Nichols kept the pressure on the visitors, and with a surge of offense coming primarily from the bench, the Bison scored 37 points to earn their sixth victory, their fourth in the last six games.
The Bison limited their opponents to a 32.3% night from the field, and dominated the glass battle, outrebounding the Bengals 0-0.
Nichols will return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday, January 28 as they head to Springfield, Mass. to take on the Western New England Golden Bears with tip-off set for 1 p.m. from the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center.
