Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Bests Curry, 86-68, for Seventh Consecutive Win

DUDLEY, Mass. The Nichols men's basketball team used a strong first half to top Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Curry on Tuesday night by the score of 86-68. Nichols improves to 13-5 on the season and 9-2 in the CCC, while Curry falls to 4-14 (2-9 CCC).

The Bison used a 13-2 run early in the first half to jump out to a comfortable lead. With 11:02 remaining in the half, graduate student Matthew Alectus drained a three with a hand in his face to extend the Nichols lead to 6. These three points gave Alectus 1,000 for his career, becoming the 32nd player in Nichols men's basketball history to surpass the milestone.

Nichols would continue to pull away from Curry the remainder of the half, highlighted by a Ty Rucker off-the-backboard pass to a trailing Quincy Ferebee for the slam, sending the home faithful into a frenzy. Alectus led the way in the first with 13 points, while Rucker and Ferebee both contributed offensively.

The beginning of the second half saw Curry pull within 10 before a Nichols timeout with 16:39 remaining. That was as close as the Colonels would get, as Nichols slowly extended their lead to eventually secure their seventh win in a row.

Alectus finished the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds, good for his 12th double-double of the season. Tavon Jones pitched in with a double-double of his own, tallying 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Rucker and Ferebee each finished in double figures, with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Nichols looks to extend their win streak to eight when they hit the road to take on Western New England in a huge CCC matchup on Saturday, January 28 with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
