Nichols Men's Soccer - Post-Game Comments - Sept. 18 vs. Me. Presque Isle
DUDLEY, Mass. - The Nichols men's soccer program defeated the University of Maine – Presque Isle Sunday afternoon, 8-3, at the Nichols Soccer Field.
UMPI struck first on the afternoon, as Matthew Bayonne found the back of the net 28 seconds into the match.
The Owls lead would not last long, with sophomore
William Savage scoring his eighth goal of the season off a cross from freshman
Brady Stevenson. The Bison took the lead less than a minute later as a cross by senior
Tyler Adu found freshman
Tristan Phillips.
Stevenson extended the lead off a leading pass from senior
Nikolas Padilla, which was followed soon after by a strike by junior
Ethan Gosper, to extend the lead to 4-1. Junior
Miron Jusufi was awarded a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in the half, which he successfully converted, to extend the lead to 5-1.
UMPI narrowed the Bison lead back to three on a goal with two minutes remaining in the first half.
Graduate student
Nicholas McGrath wasted no time extending the Bison lead back to four, tapping a cross by Jusufi past the UMPI goalie less than two minutes into the second half. The pair ran the same play seven minutes later, bringing the score to 7-2.
Freshman
Leon Lopez scored his first career goal halfway through the frame, taking a strong shot off a pass from sophomore
Matheus Campos.
The Owls scored their third goal of the match with eight minutes remaining.
The Bison hit the road Wednesday, September 21, to face Castleton University in Castleton, VT at 4:00 p.m.
