Field Hockey Blanks Blazers

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Nichols field hockey program shutout Elms College, 6-0, Wednesday night at Leary Field.

The Bison (4-2) had four different goal scorers on the contest and held the Blazers (0-5) to just one shot on goal.

Senior Erin Anthony opened the scoring for the Bison just over ten minutes into the first quarter, off a feed from graduate student Dana Edwards. Four minutes later, Edwards would get a goal of her own, assisted by sophomore Emily LeBlanc.

Anthony netted two more in a 2:14 span to start the second half, completing her first career hat trick and putting the Bison up by four. Freshman Taylor Breen recorded her first career assist on Anthony's third goal.

A pass from freshman Merle Steinau to Breen led to a 5-0 Bison lead with a full quarter left to play. Fellow freshman Kaelyn Casper capped the scoring for Nichols with ten minutes remaining, off a feed from Edwards.

Senior goalkeeper Megan Fuchs earned the win in net for the Bison.

Edwards' four points tonight catapulted her into a tie for the top position in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) for points with twelve, followed by Breen and Anthony with eleven. Edwards is also now tied for the CCC lead for assists with four, followed by Steinau and Anthony with three.

The Bison return home Saturday, September 17, to open their CCC schedule as they welcome the University of New England to Vendetti Field at 5:00 p.m.
