Men’s Soccer Downs Fisher in Home Opener, 6-1

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols men's soccer team opened its 2022 season with a commanding 6-1 victory over Fisher on Thursday, September 1 on the Nichols Soccer Field. With the triumph, the Bison continue their opening day winning streak which now spans the past four seasons-debuts.
 
The Bison (1-0-0) wasted no time getting on the board, as senior Nikolas Padilla threaded a pass through the Falcons defense, finding sophomore William Pugliese-Savage in a full sprint to the cage. Savage beat an outstretched Rafael Fabra in visitors net to the put the home team up 1-0 just 47 seconds into the contest.
 
Nichols tacked on two more goals in the remainder of the first half, with sophomore Nathan Salamon scoring on a junior Daniel Halliman feed just over seven minutes later. Savage netted his second goal of the half at the 20:09 mark of the second half, providing the Bison a comfortable 3-0 cushion heading into the half.
 
Padilla began the second half scoring in the 54th minute, scoring unassisted. Sophomore Fernando Barranco and senior Jon Christy wrapped up the offensive production with goals in the 69th and 74th minutes, respectively.
 
The Falcons (0-1-0) lone goal came off the right foot of Akil Frank, with just over five minutes remaining in the match.
 
The Bison will look to carry their winning ways into this weekend's action, where Nichols travel to North Adams, Mass. for two matchups. First, on Saturday, September 3, the squad will take on Western Conn. St. at 4:30 p.m. before taking on the host school, MCLA, on and Sunday, September 4 at 2:30 p.m.
