BRISTOL, R.I. – The Nichols College men's tennis team moved into first place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with a 7-2 win at Roger Williams University Thursday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts.
The Bison (10-5, 4-0 CCC) went up 2-1 after doubles following wins by freshman
Adrian Toderascu and
Steven Kuang at No. 2, and sophomore
Caio Dieckmann and freshman
Moritz Kern at No. 3.
In singles action, freshman
Giacomo Ghitti was a 6-3, 7-5 winner at No. 1 while sophomore
Trevor Schwarzmann was a three-set winner at No. 2 (6-0, 2-6, 6-4). Toderascu bageled his opponent at No. 3 singles, Kern scored a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles, and freshman
Jose Siles picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
The win puts the Bison in the driver's seat for home court advantage throughout the conference playoffs, which are set to begin with Quarterfinal action on Saturday, April 30. The win was also their first over the Hawks since a 9-0 whitewash on April 10, 2019.
