WORCESTER, Mass. – The Nichols women's hockey team was handed a 5-1 loss in a road non-conference matchup at Worcester State as the Bison wrapped up their first semester action on Saturday night at the Worcester Ice Center.
Isabella Portt cancelled out an early Lancers lead on an unassisted goal with less than ten minutes to go in the first.
Just over seven minutes later, Worcester State broke the deadlock, as Jennarae Bateman scored to give the home team a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.
The Lancers snuck two more goals in on even-strength scoring opportunities over the second period to give themselves a 4-1 cushion, and with just 7:43 to play, Kylian Kelly's powerplay strike put the game away for Worcester State's seventh win of the campaign.
The Bison enter the winter break with a record of 2-8-1 and will return to play on January 6 and 7 in a weekend trip to Minnesota for the Bethel University Showcase. The Bison are set to take on Marian on Friday, January 6 at 4 p.m. and Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, January 7 at 1 p.m.
