SALEM, Mass. – The Nichols women's basketball team went trailed by 14 at the half and could never catch up in the final two quarters, dropping a 97-85 decision to Salem State. in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at Twohig Gymnasium.
Abrianna Vazquez shot three-of-seven from the field in the opening frame, giving her team nine points to trail by just two at 21-19 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the home team was able to score 26 points on 50 percent shooting, going 11-of-22 from field goal range. At the halftime break, Irianis Delgago of Salem State led all scorers with 15 points as the Vikings took a 47-33 lead into the locker room.
Nichols would outscore Salem State, 52-50, in the final two quarters of action, but it would not be enough as the Vikings held on for their second victory of the season. With the loss, the Bison fell to 0-3.
Nichols is set to defend home court for the first time this season on Tuesday, November 22 in a matchup with Thomas at 5:30 at the Nichols Athletic Center.
