Nichols Falls to Endicott in CCC Quarterfinals

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Nichols women's volleyball team had their historic season come to a close in a 3-0 loss to No. 2 seed Endicott in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium. The No. 7 Bison fell by set scores of 17-25, 22-25, 22-25 to finish their season 15-11 overall.

Tied at 9-9 in the first set, Nichols took a two-point lead over the Gulls off back-to-back kills from Jayleen Fegan and Luna Colozzo before Endicott rattled off five-straight points to force the Bison into a timeout trailing 11-14. The Gulls would hang on to that lead through the rest of the set to take a 1-0 advantage.

A kill from Colleen McAvoy broke up a 6-1 Bison run in the middle of the second set, as Nichols took a 15-10 lead. Following a Melina Bezati service miscue, the Bison tacked on three more points as Colozzo and Granato kills sandwiched a Ryley Plourde ace to put the Bison in control 18-11. The home side would not roll over, as the Gulls went on a dominating 14-4 run to secure a two-set advantage.

Nichols yet again held a lead late in the third set. Bezati delivered two consecutive aces to regain a 22-21 lead, but a side-out kill from Sophie Breitenbach gave Endicott the serve back and helped them gain the three points to advance to the next round.

Libero Liz Diorio led all players with 21 digs in the setback, while Granato earned 12 kills on 24 swings to hit .458. Colozzo had a double-digit performance herself, notching 10 kills while hitting at a .300 clip. Kya Burdier dished out 36 assists in her freshman finale.

Nichols ended their season after earning the most wins (15) and conference wins (3) in program history under second-year head coach Casey Fitzpatrick. Endicott advances to host the CCC Semifinals against No. 6 Western New England.
