DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols women's volleyball team fell in a three-set Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match against Endicott on Tuesday night at the Nichols Athletic Center, falling to 12-6 (1-3 CCC) on the season. The Bison lost by set scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-21.
The Gulls jumped in front 7-0 in the first set fueled by a serving run by Amanda Gilbert. The Bison kept things close, recording four-straight points of their own to cut the deficit to just three. Leading 15-9, Endicott used a 5-0 run to help put the first set away to lead the match.
Once again trailing in the second set, the Bison used a five-point swing, capped by a
Luna Colozzo kill, to bring the set within eight at 22-14. The late push did not prove to be enough, as a Gilbert putaway at set point gave the Gulls a 2-0 lead.
After leading 10-8 in the third, Nichols' lead was lost as part of a five-point sway in favor of the visitors as Endicott took a 13-10 advantage. Despite the Bison battling back within 21-19 thanks to kills from
Ryley Plourde,
Sydney Ball, and Colozzo, the Gulls took the final set to come away with the sweep and advance to 3-0 in conference play.
Colozzo recorded seven kills and two blocks in the setback, as Burdier recorded 17 assists.
Nichols will continue CCC play in a matchup at Roger Williams at the Paolino Recreation Center next Wednesday, October 12 at 6 p.m.
