Bison work overtime to defeat Golden Bears

DUDLEY, Mass. – Junior Jakigh Dottin poured in a career-high 37 points to lift the Nichols College men's basketball team to a 114-105 overtime win over Western New England University Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at the Nichols Athletic Center.

The Towson University transfer netted 14 in the first half, 15 in the second half, and eight in the extra session as the Bison improved to 12-2 on the season (5-2 CCC). Graduate student Matt Alectus recorded his first double-double for the Bison as he pulled down a game-high 14 boards to go with 16 points – seven of which came in OT.

Freshman Tahmeen Dupree dropped in 25 points (10-of-15 FG) for NC while senior Jaekwon Spencer filled the stat sheet with 17 points, nine rebounds, four dimes and three blocks for head coach Brock Erickson. Nichols knocked down 55 percent of its shots (42-of-77), held a 51-46 edge on the glass, and canned 24 of its 42 attempts from the charity stripe.

Trailing by a pair with 11 seconds remaining in regulation, Dottin drove the lane and was fouled. After knocking down both free throw attempts with four seconds on the clock, he opened the overtime scoring 24 seconds in and the Bison never looked back. Dupree followed with a jumper with 2:31 to go before a triple from Alectus from the corner in front of the Bison bench stretched the lead to seven at 101-94. A three-point play from Alectus with 1:14 remaining pushed the lead to nine.

Alex Sikorski paced the Golden Bears (5-8, 3-4 CCC) with 26 points (9-of-18 FG). WNE shot 42 percent from the field and banged in 18 triples on 38 attempts (47 percent).
