Freshman Abrianna Vazquez scored a team-high 18 points in Nichols College's 60-38 loss to Western New England University Friday night in women's basketball action at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Sophomore Leandra Ortiz added 12 points for the Bison (1-2), who shot 27 percent from the field and were outrebounded 55-25. Seniors Shannon St. Lawrence and Isabella Nerney each pulled down four boards.

Emily Skurka collected 12 points and seven rebounds as the Golden Bears saw nine different student-athletes score in their season-opener. Lauren Chadwick recorded eight points, seven rebounds, four dimes, and four steals for WNE, which shot 37 percent on the evening.
