DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols College senior
Hunter Ferreira moved into sole possession of first place on the college's all-time receptions list in Nichols College's 14-12 loss to Husson University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Football action at Vendetti Field.
Ferreira – who hauled in a 61-yard reception in the first quarter – caught a three-yard pass in the fourth quarter that gave his 144 career receptions and moved him past former teammate
Tony Martignoli. His signal caller, senior quarterback
Alpha Barry, completed 10-of-21 passes for 189 yards and also rushed for 56 yards in his first start for the Bison (2-6, 0-4 CCC).
Nichols led 3-0 at the end of the first as sophomore
Vincent Mallozzi capped a five-play, 60-yard drive with a 21 yard field goal. Later, the Bison found themselves trailing 14-3 in the fourth when his second field goal – this one from 23 yards away – cut the NC deficit to 14-6.
On their next possession, sophomore
Archie Killian hauled in a six-yard pass from Barry on fourth-and-four to bring the Bison to within two at 14-12. The ensuing two-point conversion failed, however, and the Eagles (6-2, 3-1 CCC) collected three first downs on their next drive to run out the clock.
The Bison racked up 319 yards of total offense – compared to 286 for Husson – and rushed for 130 yards, led by Barry's 56 and graduate student
Joshua Pierre-Charles with 33. Defensively, graduate student
Earl Jones tallied 11 tackles (eight solo) and also recorded an interception.
