DUDLEY, Mass. – The No. 2 seed Nichols College women's tennis team was upended by No. 3 seed Roger Williams University 5-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals Thursday afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
After the Hawks (13-1) won two of the three doubles matches to open the tilt, NC freshman
Antonia Carrero scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 single to even the match at two. Freshman
Johanna Schroeder followed with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles to give NC a 3-2 lead.
Roger Williams pulled even at three-all before senior
Kara Stankewitz scored a 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 win at No. 2 singles to put NC one point away from advancing. The Hawks then evened the match at four with a win at No. 3 singles, then pulled out a 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles to advance.
Schroeder and sophomore
Jordan Knowles were 8-4 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Nichols finished the fall 8-4.
