DUDLEY, Mass. - Nichols College mourns the loss of women's soccer student-athlete
Hallie Linacre, who passed away on Friday, May 8.
"To hear of Hallie's passing is beyond heartbreaking. My heart and deepest sympathies go out to the Linacre family, her friends, teammates, and our Nichols community," said Nichols College Director of Athletics Eric Gobiel. A native of Richmond, Rhode Island and a graduate of Chariho High School, Linacre arrived in Dudley in the Fall of 2017 and made an immediate impact on the pitch. She started all 17 matches for the Bison on defense and
scored her first collegiate goal against Pine Manor on September 27, 2017. The following season, she appeared in 14 matches and was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Academic All-Conference Team.
This past fall, Linacre was a key reason the Bison posted their highest win total in nearly a decade (10)Â and recorded the second-most shutouts in program history with seven. She played in all 19 matches and anchored a stingy defense that allowed just 30 goals in 19 contests. Following the season, she once again received CCC Academic All-Conference accolades.
"Hallie brightened every soccer practice, every team meeting, every bus ride, and every function she attended here with our team and the Nichols community," said former Nichols women's soccer head coach Karen Gurnon. "She was intelligent, hard-working, sincere, athletic, and always willing to do more than was asked of her. We will miss Hallie dearly. Our hearts go out to the Linacre family, the Chariho community, the Nichols College Bison family, and all those impacted by Hallie's passing. Hallie will be a Bison Forever."
Linacre was a double major in Accounting and Finance. She was a member of the Honors Program at Nichols, a TA for the PDS program, involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and served as a student worker in the Library. Linacre was set to be a team captain for the Bison as a senior in 2020. Â
