Bison pull away late, down Wildcats

Sophomore Hunter Ferreira tallied seven points on five goals and two assists as the Nichols College men's lacrosse team defeated Johnson & Wales 14-11 in non-conference action Wednesday evening at Vendetti Field in Dudley, Massachusetts.

The Bison were led by Ferreira who scored four of his five goals in the second half, helping the Bison out score the Wildcats 10-8 in the second half of play. Sophomore Cian Keohane tallied six points for the Bison on three goals and three assists, while freshman Erik Fellenstein scored his first three goals of his career.

The Wildcats saw Tyler Drago scored four goals, while picking up an assist. Andrew Vasile and Xavier Chiovera both scored multiple goals for JWU in the contest. The Bison held a 9-6 advantage at the end of the third quarter before the Wildcats opened up the fourth quarter scoring four of the first five goals to tie the game at 10 apiece with 8:57 left to play. The Bison then went on to score three goals in a row from Ryan Warner, Keohane, and Ferreira as they pulled away in the final minutes to take the 14-11 victory.
 
Three things you need to know…
-The Wildcats were called for five penalties in the game, which the Bison took advantage of, scoring three times man-up.
-The Bison outshot the Wildcats 47-34.
-Today's game marked the first ever meeting between the two programs.
