Recap
The No. 2 seed Nichols College women's ice hockey program lost to the No. 2 seed University of new England 3-2 in the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) semifinals Saturday afternoon at Harry Alfond Forum in Biddeford, Maine.
The Bison (6-16-4) saw two freshman score, as
Jessica Gossas-Moberg, and
Sarah Zeidan potted second period goals to tie the game at two goals apiece. The Nor'easters got the scoring started early on with a goal just 2:59 into the game from Kyra Yu. With less then two minutes remaining in the period UNE scored a power-play goal to give them the 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
Nichols came storming back however, as Gossas-Moberg responded 2:25 into the second period, with a helper from freshman
Kayla Currin. Six minutes later Nichols tied the game at two when Zeidan was able to find the back of the net with assists from freshman
Lauren Rokala and sophomore
Isabella Portt. The Nor'easters scored late in the second period, with a goal from Shannon Nadeau, the eventual game winner. The Bison pulled junior netminder
Abby Bassett from the net with 50 seconds left in the third period as a last-ditch effort. Junior
Jordyn McGuire had the best look as she rifled a shot with less the 30 seconds left but it rattled off the pipe. UNE was able to fend off Nichols for the last 20 seconds to pick up the win and advance to the CHC Championship.
