Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Colonels snap Bison's 12-game unbeaten streak

Recap
Senior Nicholas Mangone and sophomore Justin Perron each scored goals in Nichols College's 3-2 overtime loss to Curry College Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action at Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I.

Graduate student J.B. Baker was one of four Bison to record an assist on an evening where they outshot the Colonels (17-4-3, 12-3-2 CCC) by a slim 30-29 margin. Senior captain Jordan Williamson was credited with the game-winning goal when a pass he sent towards the slot was redirected into the net at 1:25.

The Bison (11-12-2, 8-8-2 CCC) held leads to 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by Mangone 9:51 into the first and Perron 7:48 into the second. The Colonels tied the game both times with the second goal coming with junior netminder Cory Murch on the bench for the extra attacker at 18:40 of the third period.

Epp finished the night with 26 saves to move to 2-6-2 on the season.

Three things you need to know...
-Tonight's contest marked the 84th all-time meeting between Curry College and Nichols College. This was the ninth overtime game and, with the win, the Colonels improve to 6-1-3 in those contests.
-The loss snaps the Bison's 12-game unbeaten streak (10-0-2), dating back to a 5-4 overtime loss to Saint John's (MN) on January 5.
-Baker played in his 100th career game tonight, a feat matched by Mangone and senior Hogan Davidson earlier this season. He has 117 points on 42 goals and 75 assists during that span.

Quote
"This was a great hockey game with two good teams. It definitely had a playoff atmosphere, which was great for our guys to get that experience heading into Wednesday. We had our chances to get that two-goal lead and just couldn't finish. They got a few fortunate bounces, but that's playoff hockey. Now, it's time for all of our guys to let that one go and focus on Wednesday because it's a brand new season." -Nichols head coach Parker Burgess
