Bison pounce on AMCats, scores 37-20 win

Junior Joshua Pierre-Charles rushed for 127 yards and one touchdown in Nichols College's 37-20 win over Anna Maria College Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at AMCat Field.

Sophomore Daniel Parker rushed for 35 yards and one score while senior signal caller Michael Pina completed 20-of-32 passes for 305 yards for the Bison, who moved to 2-1 with the win. Sophomore Hunter Ferreira caught a game-high seven passes for 108 yards as the Bison compiled 462 yards of total offense.
 
Nichols opened the scoring just seconds into the first quarter when senior Jared Abbruzzese returned a fumble 24 yards for a touchdown. In the second quarter, Pina capped a 13-play, 83-yard drive with a one-yard TD run to extend the lead to 17-6. With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Pierre-Charles polished off an eight-play, 93-yard drive with a one-yard scoring run to push the lead to 24-13.
 
A fumble return by senior Michael Spraulding for a score in the third and a 13-yard TD run from Parker in the fourth closed out the scoring for the Bison. Defensively, sophomore Joe Cox racked up nine solo tackles – including three TFL – and forced a fumble.
 
Three tihings you need to know...
            -Today's contest marked the fifth all-time meeting between Anna Marie College and Nichols College. The Bison are now a perfetc 5-0 against the AMCats and 3-0 in Paxton.
            -Senior Tony Martignoli became the sixth student-athlete in program history to record 100 career receptions. The Santa Rosa, Calif. has 14 catches this season and 102 for his career, which is 37 behind Anthony Pillari (2006-09) for No. 1 all-time.
            -Nichols is 2-1 for the third time in the last four years under head coach Dale Olmsted.
