Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Chargers hold off Bison

Recap
Sophomore Lizz McKinnon scored a career-high five goals in Nichols College's 15-10 loss to Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Vendetti Field.

Senior Kirsten Sullivan added three goals while juniors Miranda Smith and Danielle Kozloski also found the back of the net for the Bison (2-13). Freshman Claire Matlak won seven draw controls to lead all student-athletes while freshman Sam Ahaesy and Elizabeth Luster shared the team lead in ground balls with five.

Senior Sierra Schuster and sophomore Sarah Morin each scored six times for the Chargers (10-4), who held a 40-28 edge in shots and were successful on 19 of their 20 clears. Junior Kailyn Lapham tallied nine saves to earn her 10th win of the season.

Three-straight goals from Morin helped the Chargers build an early 5-1 lead, however the Bison closed the half with three-straight tallies – including two from McKinnon – to cut their deficit to two (8-6).

Nearly 10 minutes ticked off the clock without a goal in the second half before Morin scored her 40th goal of the season. The schools alternated the next seven goals, which left Colby-Sawyer ahead 12-10 with an even 3:00 on the clock. Sophomore Jess Tattersall pushed the lead to three with her 12th goal with 2:24 remaining, and markers from Schuster and Morin in the final 47 seconds secured the win for the visitors.

Three things you need to know...
-Sullivan's 47 goals in 2018 moves her into a tie for third place on the program's single-season scoring list. She is two shy of Krista Jean-Forand's total of 49 (set in 2012) and six shy of Forand's single-season record of 53, accomplished in 2010.
-Matlak's seven draw control wins are the second-highest total of the career; she collected 10 in Monday's game against Emmanuel (MA).
-Nichols junior goalie Emily Eagan stopped 11 shots and also scooped up five ground balls.
