The Nichols College baseball team defeated Becker 9-3 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at the New England Baseball Complex (NEBC) in Northborough, Massachusetts.

Chris Anderson cranked out a solo shot to left field in the second inning to jump start the Bison's (1-2) offense in their first win of the 2019 campaign. The solo shot was one of four runs that Nichols scored in the second inning to take the early 4-0 lead over the Hawks (0-1). Senior
Joe Assenza extended his hot start to the season going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Freshman
David Caron collected a couple of hits himself, going 2-for-5 while Junior
Christian Naccari led the Bison with two RBI on a single to center field in the second inning.
The Hawks scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning coming off RBI's from the bottom third of the batting order. Junior Michael Bianco singled up the middle, before Tanyon Ventres scored on a fielder's choice from junior Michael McMahon. Following the fielder's choice senior Willis Pollard singled to center to drive in Bianco which cut the Bison's lead to 7-3.
Nichols freshman
Brendan Duffy took the hill first his inaugural collegiate start, he went 3.1 innings giving up three hits and three runs, all of which were unearned. Fellow freshman
Isaac Blanford ultimately was credited with the win after relieving Duffy in the fourth inning and pitching 1.2 innings while giving up only one hit.

Three things you need to know…
-The Hawks recorded five errors in today's game.
-Assenza leads the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a .643 batting average through the first three games.
-Today's game marked the 12th all-time meeting between the two programs, the Bison have now evened the series at six games apiece.
