NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Nichols College men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback on the road at the Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday afternoon in non-league action.
The Bison drop to 17-3 overall, while the Bears move to 7-4.
Junior
Blake Norton grabbed the lone point of the day for Nichols with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 victory at No. 3 singles over senior Mike Melampy.
The Bison had several hard fought battles not go their way as sophomores
Guilherme Barbosa and
Peter Coletti dropped a 9-8 decision to freshman Kyle Fager and freshman Chris Lansing at No. 2 doubles to start the match.
In singles play, sophomore
Brandon Howard was able to force a third set against junior Tom Hackett at No. 1 singles before falling, 2-6, 6-1, 3-6. Barbosa also forced a third set in his matchup with senior John Hu at No. 2 singles, but fell 3-6, 6-2, 4-10. Sophomore
Jack Donaldson also fell in three sets at No. 6 singles, 3-6, 6-4, 4-10, at No. 6 singles against freshman Chris Lansing.

Tuesday marked the ninth meeting between the two teams and the Bears lead the all-time series, 6-3.
