Bison lock up top seed in win over Wentworth

WESTON, Mass. – The Nichols College men's tennis team picked up its 15th-straight win while also securing the top seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason with an 8-1 win over the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday night at the Regis Tennis Courts in Weston, Mass.
 
Nichols improves to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in the CCC, while Wentworth drops to 5-8 and 2-5 in league matches. The Bison return to action on Tuesday afternoon when one half of the team wraps up conference play against Curry at 4:00 p.m. at the Robinson Tennis Courts, while the other half travels to Coast Guard for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
 
The Bison took 2-of-3 matches in doubles play which began with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles by freshman Brandon Stewart and junior Aidan Stuart over senior Seng Ly and sophomore Alex Mularski. Junior Blake Norton and freshman August Moeller followed with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over senior Jeff Tocco and freshman Tyler Hall.
 
Wentworth took its only point of the match at No. 3 doubles as freshman Tristan Maus and freshman Jarrett North defeated the freshmen duo of Baylen Harper and Sean Nutter, 8-4.
 
The Bison made quick work of the Leopards in singles play as freshman Nicolas Bezada defeated freshman Matt Roberts, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6 singles, while sophomore Jack Donaldson followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Mularski. Sophomore Brandon Howard sealed the match for Nichols with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Tocco, with Norton and Moeller posting matching 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Sophomore Peter Coletti added a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over Maus.
