Nichols falls to Roger Williams

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's lacrosse team fell to visiting Roger Williams University, 21-0, on Wednesday night in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup in Dudley, Mass.
 
The Bison drop to 4-9 overall and 0-6 in the CCC with the setback, while the Hawks improve to 11-3 and 6-1 in league games. Nichols looks to get back on track Saturday afternoon when they travel to the University of New England for a 4:00 p.m. game.
 
Roger Williams held a 43-advantage in shots in the game, while also holding a 22-14 edge in groundballs, and 13-9 edge in draw controls. The Bison committed 24 turnovers to just eight for the Hawks, while going 11-of-19 on clears compared to an 18-for-18 showing from the Hawks.
 
Senior Lindsay O'Connell registered a pair of shots in the game to go with a groundball and two caused turnovers. Six other players registered one shot apiece, including senior Mellissa LaFleur who also grabbed six draw controls and caused a turnover. Senior Allison Bench grabbed a pair of groundballs, while sophomore Miranda Smith and junior Brooke Downey had two groundballs and a caused turnover apiece.
 
Sophomore Emily Eagan made eight saves in 44:42 of action while giving up 18 goals in the setback. Classmate Molly Steen played the final 15:18, stopping three shots while allowing three goals.
 
The Hawks had 11 players register at least one point led by five goals and two assists from senior Kaelin Hogan. Freshman Devon Sarazin added a pair of goals and four assists, while junior Emily Stoeppel found the back of the net six times for the visitors.
 
Sophomore Lydia Nelson picked up the win, making a pair of saves for Roger Williams in the first half, with freshman Addie Di Scipio registering four saves in the second half.

Roger Williams improved to 15-0 all-time against the Bison with the win.
