Senior Marcos Echevarria led five Nichols College student-athletes in double figures in scoring with 23 points in a 106-79 win over Salve Regina University Wednesday night in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Nichols Athletic Center.
 
Echevarria also matched his career-high with 10 dimes and knocked down seven triples as the Bison remained unbeaten on the young season at 5-0 (1-0 CCC). Sophomore Matt Morrow finished the contest with 18 points (8-of-10 FG), junior Jerome Cunningham collected a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, classmate DeAnte Bruton netted 17 points, and sophomore Nate Tenaglia scored 10 points.
 
Sophomore Cameron Collins led the Seahawks (2-4, 0-1 CCC) with 21 points while classmate Jonathan Friberg put in 16 points. Salve Regina was outrebounded 44-40 and connected on just 45 percent of its free throws (9-of-20).
 
The Bison opened up a 10-point lead midway through the first on a layup by Tenaglia, who then knocked down a triple with 4:18 to go to extend the lead to 15 points (48-33). A three-pointer from junior Kash Jackson in the final minute helped up the lead to 20 at the break (58-38).
 
Nichols opened the second half on a 16-8 run as the lead grew to 28 points following two Bruton free throws less than five minutes in. A 13-0 run late in the stanza as Bruton, Echevarria, and Jackson canned back-to-back-to-back triples, pushing the lead to 31 points (103-72).
 
Three things you need to know...
            -Tonight's contest marked the 54th all-time meeting between Nichols College and Salve Regina University. The Bison have won the last 12 contests and now lead the series, 29-25.
            -Nichols moved to 5-0 for the first time since the 1959-60 campaign, when it won its first seven games under head coach Hal Chalmers.
            -The Bison sank a season-high 21 free throws, led by Bruton, who was a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
