Spencer scores twice in 4-2 win over JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Ian Spencer scored twice and senior Scott Cuthrell dished out three assists in Nichols College's 4-2 win over Johnson & Wales (RI) University Thursday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
 
Junior Matthew Menta also picked up a pair of assists as the Bison scored a pair of power-play goals and have now won six of their last seven contests to move to 12-6-2 on the season (7-4-2 CCC). Freshman netminder Henry Burns stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn his fifth win of the season.
 
Sophomore Vincent Crivello staked the Bison to a 1-0 lead at 16:51 of the first period when he tapped in a pass from sophomore J.B. Baker. Spencer doubled the lead when he redirected a point shot from Menta at 19:04 of the opening period. Twenty-seven seconds later, Craig Hessenius scored on the power-play to send the Wildcats (5-14-0, 3-10-0 CCC) to the locker room trailing by one.
 
Junior Daniele Iasenza helped the Bison regain a two-goal lead with his first of the season 1:55 into the second period. Less than six minutes later, Spencer banged in a rebound with the man advantage for his second of the night and seventh of the season to push the lead to 4-1. JWU's Anthony Scarcella closed the scoring with a marker at 19:16 of the third period.
 
The Bison held a 29-21 edge in shots. JWU netminder Mike Rockwell was credited with 29 saves.  
 
All-Time Series
Tonight's contest marked the 32nd all-time meeting between Nichols College and Johnson & Wales (RI) University. The Bison have won three-straight and five of the last six, and they now lead the series, 20 -11-1.
