Colonels hand Bison disappointing 19-10 loss

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Curry College 19-10 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Sunday afternoon at Vendetti Field.
 
Junior MacKenzie Martin (Merrimack, N.H.) scored three goals to lead the Bison, who also received two goals each from senior Matt Feigenblat (Shelton, Conn.) and junior Jake Zaremski (Dorchester, Mass.).
 
The Colonels outshot he Bison 54-40 and won 23-of-32 face-offs. Sophomore Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) potted a game-high six goals and also collected nine assists while senior Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) scored three times. Sophomore Zach White (Milford, Conn.) won 20 of the 26 draws he took.
 
Newell scored twice in the first quarter to help the Colonels gain a 4-2 lead. The visitors scored six more times in the second and took a 10-5 lead into halftime. Newell netted three more goals for CC while Feigenblat and Martin struck for Nichols.
 
Junior Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) scored twice in the third quarter as the Colonels extended their lead to 13-6. Curry opened the fourth with three-straight tallies, giving it a 16-6 lead with 6:29 remaining.
 
Senior Tyler Sikich (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) scooped up a team-high five ground balls for Nichols while sophomore Brian McKinley (Nashua, N.H.) made 15 saves in defeat.
 
White led all student-athletes with nine ground balls. Senior Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) turned aside 15 shots to record the victory.
 
All-Time Series
Today's contest marks the 31st all-time meeting between Nichols College and Curry College. With the win, the Colonels move to 20-11 all-time against the Bison and have won four-straight.
