NAPLES, Fla. - Freshman Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) struck out 10 batters to backstop the Nichols College softball team to a 2-1 win over local foe Salem State Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at North Collier Regional Park.

Sophomore Zoe Chevrette (Wilbraham, Mass.) drove in the only runs the Bison needed with a bases loaded, two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the first. Juniors Kasey Ayer (Niantic, Conn.) and Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) scored on the play.

Ferris, meanwhile, worked out a jam in the sixth. After the Vikings cut their deficit to 2-1, Ferris fanned the next two batters with the tying run on second to escape trouble. She then worked a 1-2-3 seventh to earn her second win of the season, surrendering four hits and walking none.
