WENHAM, Mass. – The No. 7-seed Nichols College men's soccer team fell to No. 2-seed Gordon College, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals at the Quad in Wenham, Mass.
The Bison end their season at 7-9-2 overall, while Gordon advances to the CCC Semifinals where the Fighting Scots will take on No. 3-seed Western New England University on Tuesday.
Gordon held a 20-9 advantage in shots in the game, while corner kicks were even at four attempts apiece.
The Fighting Scots received all the offense they would need in the opening six minutes of action as junior Ian Burkhart (Lancaster, Pa.) opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute of play before junior Josh Beveridge (Anchorage, Alaska) made it a 2-0 advantage in the sixth minute. Senior Blake Troiani (Dallas, Texas) picked up assists on both goals for the Fighting Scots.
The Nichols offense was paced by junior
Greg Giglio (Deer Park, N.Y.), who registered four shots in the game. Sophomore
Juan Carlos De La Cruz (Stamford, Conn.) suffered the setback while making eight saves in the game.
Gordon's freshman Wesley Sprague (Naperville, Ill.) earned the win, stopping a pair of shots.

Saturday's match was the 46th meeting between the two programs and the Fighting Scots hold a 28-12-6 advantage in the series.
