Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Bison score three power-play goals, down Skidmore 4-3

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior captain Scott Cuthrell scored a pair of power-play goals in the third period to lift the Nichols College men's ice hockey team to a 4-3 win at Skidmore College in the season-opener for both Friday night at Weibel Arena.
 
Juniors Ian Spencer and Matthew Menta (Lima, Pa.) each collected a pair of assists and senior Colin Brennan stopped 16 shots for the Bison, who went 3-for-14 with the man advantage. Junior Ben Campbell registered a goal and an assist for NC, giving him six multi-point games for his career.
 
The Bison trailed 1-0 after one before senior Chris Deming redirected a shot from Campbell on the PP at 4:09 to tie the game at one. The Thoroughbreds regained a 2-1 lead at 7:54 before Campbell's taly knotted the score at two less than five minutes later. Sophomore Hogan Davidson slid a pass over to Campbell, who blew a shot past sophomore Skidmore netminder Brad Kasel.
 
In the third, a pair of Skidmore student-athletes were assessed interference penalties at 5:33, giving the Bison a 5-on-3 power play for two minutes. Cuthrell's 26th career goal at 6:09 gave the visitors their first lead of the night at 3-2 at 6:09, and his second goal with the man advantage at 8:36 pushed the Thoroughbreds deficit to two.
 
Nichols held Skidmore to just five shots over the final 20 minutes and closed the game with a 26-19 edge in shots. The Thoroughbreds went 1-for-5 with the extra skater.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight's contest marked the seventh all-time meeting between Nichols College and Skidmore College. The Bison have won the last three meetings and now lead the series, 5-2.
