DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior
Brianna Kilborn (North Brookfield, Mass.) and junior
Erin Jillson (New Salem, Mass.) scored second-half goals to lift the Nichols College field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Friday night at Vendetti Field.
The win was the sixth of the season for the Bison, giving them their highest win total since the 2013 campaign. Junior
Courtney White (Orange, Mass.), sophomore
Erin Kelley (Dighton, Mass.), and freshman
Carlee Tolley (Chatham, Mass.) all collected assist for NC.
The two teams played a scoreless first half with the Bison holding a 7-5 edge in shots. The game remained scoreless into the second half until 60:16, when Jillson potted her second goal of the season. Kelley inserted the ball to the top of the circle to White, who slid the ball to White for the one-time that landed inside the left post. Less than five minutes later, Tolley drove towards the net and found Kilborn for the redirect, giving her three goals on the season.
Sophomore
Brooke Misbach (Guilford, Conn.) improved to 6-8 on the season as recorded eight saves. Fellow sophomore Julia Altman (Hopkinton, Mass.) made four saves for Gordon, which was led by senior Emily Alcroft (Haydenville, Mass.) with four shots.
All-Time Series
Tonight's contest marked the 47th all-time meeting between Nichols College and Gordon College. With the win, the Bison snapped a nine-game losing skid to the Fighting Scots, who continue to lead the series 28-18-1.
