J'ena Baker (Rockledge, Fla.) notched eight kills in Nichols College's 3-0 loss at Rhode Island College Wednesday night in non-conference volleyball action at The Murray Center.

Baker also led the Bison with nine digs while classmate
Jayla Simmons (Rockledge, Fla.) picked up eight. Sophomore
Sabrina Boermeester (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman
Megan Gardner (South Deerfield, Mass.) each recorded two kills.

Junior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (North Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, R.I.) finished with eight and seven kills, respectively, to lead the Anchorwomen.

RIC won the first set, 25-18, over the Bison, led by Ward's three kills and four digs. Junior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, R.I.) posted three aces and handed out three assists. Baker led the visitors with three kills and four digs.

The hosts took set two, 25-21, to build a 2-0 lead heading into the third frame. Ward and Lambrese each contributed four kills, while White dished out 10 assists, in the stanza. Baker paced the Bison with four winners. The Anchorwomen doubled up NC's offensive output in the frame by leading, 14-7, in kills.

RIC jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the decisive set and eventually won, 25-10, to secure the shutout. Â

Tonight's contest marked the first-ever meeting between Nichols College and Rhode Island College. The Anchorwomen now lead the series, 1-0.
