Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

A pair of second half goals lead Bison past Worcester St., 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Cody Wasilewski (Tolland, Conn.) scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second half as the Nichols College men's soccer team defeated Worcester State 2-1 in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Coughlin Stadium.

The Bison trailed 1-0 after the first half but scored a pair of goals less than 10 minutes apart in the second half to secure their fifth win of the season.

The Lancers got on the scoreboard first at 40:46 when freshman Mitzschael Myrthil (Clinton, Mass.) found the back of the net. Junior Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.) was credited with the assist on the goal.

In the 56th minute, the Bison evened things up when freshman Chris Noga (Belchertown, Mass.) scored his team leading fourth goal of the season. Nichols has had a freshman lead them in goals each of the past three seasons – Lemire in 2015 and Mohsin in 2014.

Wasilewski scored the first goal of his collegiate career at 64:15 to give Nichols their first lead of the game which they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.

The Bison held the edge in the shot column 13-12 while the Lancers had an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore William Aldrich (Belchertown, Mass.) and Noga paced the Bison with four shots while Myrthil, Dent and senior George Siotis (Oxford, Mass.) had two shots to lead the Lancers.

Sophomore Patrick Porpora (Westminster, Mass.) took the win after making seven saves in the game. Freshman Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) made five stops in the loss.

All-Time Series
This was the first meeting between the Bison and Lancers since 2007 in which Worcester State won the previous six games in the series. Nichols now leads the all-time series at 22-10-3.
