Game Recap: Softball |

Nichols closes regular season with losses at Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – Sophomore Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) and freshman Zoe Chevrette (Wilbraham, Mass.) each drove in two runs for the Nichols College softball team, which was swept by Endicott College Monday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Endicott Softball Field.

Game One: Endicott 6, Nichols 3
Freshman Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.) drove in three runs and senior Samantha DiBella (Danvers, Mass.) plated two more in a game one win for the Gulls.

Chrevette's RBI single in the first gave the Bison a 1-0 lead before a throwing error in the second allowed two more to score and the lead grew to 3-0. Endicott scratched across a run in its half of the second to cut its deficit in half, then a three-run home run off the bat of Arduini and a solo blast from DiBella in the fourth gave the home team a 5-3 lead.

The Gulls added one more in the fifth and won behind seven innings from freshman Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.). She gave up six hits and three runs (one earned) with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Meehan surrendered eight hits and six runs (five earned) with no walks and one strikeout in six innings as she fell to 3-4.

Game Two: Endicott 8, Nichols 4
Meehan went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Bison while junior Chrissy Gikas (Danvers, Mass.) and freshman Casie Beauchemin (Lincoln, R.I.) each recorded two RBI for Endicott.

The Gulls built a 7-0 lead as Beauchemin drove in runs in the second and fourth innings. The Bison threw up a 'four' spot in the fifth a two-run single from Meehan and RBI hits from Chevrette and classmate Callie Andrews (Southbridge, Mass.). Gikas' seconds RBI of the game in the sixth closed the scoring.

Junior Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) started for the Bison and allowed seven hits and seven runs in four innings of work to drop her to 5-9 on the season. Senior Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) was tagged for seven hits and four runs (three earned) with four strikeouts over seven to pick up the win.
