FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Nichols College baseball team defeated Lasell College 28-5 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
The Bison broke the program-record for runs in a game – which has stood strong for 51 years – by scoring 28, including 20 runs over the last four frames.
Nichols had 14 different student-athletes earn a hit in the game with sophomore
Cam Cook (Phoenixville, Pa.) leading the way with his 3-for-4 performance with five RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore
Nick Roy (Middletown, Conn.) also tallied three hits in the game while also scoring two runs and driving in a pair.
The Bison had this game in hand from the beginning, scratching across five runs in the first inning – highlighted by a two-run single by sophomore
Ross Caswell (Randolph, Vt.) which scored junior
Matt Hardy (North Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore
Spencer Madden (Nashua, N.H.).
The Lasers pulled the score to 5-3 with a couple runs in the bottom half of the third inning before the Bison answered right back with three runs in the top of the fourth, including an two-run single by freshman
Joe Assenza (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) that brought home Cook and sophomore
Brendan Martin (Nashua, N.H.).
Nichols (4-4) led 12-3 entering the seventh inning when the Bison put up their biggest inning of the year, scoring seven runs on five hits while the Bison. They sent 12 hitters to the plate in the inning.

Benjamin Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) in the seventh – each finished the game with three RBI. Assenza, junior

Freshman
Thomas Hyland (Nashua, N.H.) earned his first collegiate victory after tossing five innings and just allowing three runs (two earned) on two walks and striking out two.
The Lasers (2-4) were led by sophomore Dom Mascolo (Waterbury, Conn.) who went 2-for-4 with two RBI while four other student-athletes had two hits. Six different pitchers toed the rubber for Lasell and each of them allowed a run.
The Bison are back in action on Thursday at noon when they take on Keystone as a part of the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida.
