DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols College men's ice hockey host the University of New England tomorrow in a celebration of its first season in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
Nichols is set to have a pregame ceremony for the game – including a ceremonial puck drop with the college's president, Susan Engelkemeyer, and conference Commissioner Gregg Kaye.
The school is sponsoring student fan buses that will take leave out of Lombard Hall at 2:40 p.m. in order to be in Harrisville, R.I. in time for the 3:40 faceoff. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for such prizes as Inaugural CCC season pucks and a Nichols hockey jersey.
The Bison are led by freshman
J.B. Baker (Columbia, Md.) – who has a conference-leading 22 points on the season while leading Nichols in both goals (8) and assists (14). Baker's line-mates – junior captain
Scott Cuthrell (Waterford, Mich.) and sophomore
Matthew Menta (Lima, Pa.) Â are second on the team in goals and assists, respectively.
Junior
Colin Brennan (Chester, N.J.) leads the Bison between the pipes with a 6-2-2 record and is fourth in the CCC in goals-against average (2.10) and save percentage (.932).
UNE is led by sophomore forward Brady Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) who is tied with Baker atop the conference in assists (14) and second in the conference in points (20). Senior Trevor Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) leads the Nor'easters with nine goals – good for second-best in the CCC.
Nichols comes into the game second in the CCC with a 5-1-2 record through league-play while the Nor'easters are fifth in the conference at 4-3-1. UNE handed the Bison their only blemish of the season in the CCC back on November 10 in Biddeford, 6-4. A game that saw Cuthrell net a pair of goals while the Nor'easters saw five goals from the Fleurents (three from Trevor and two from Brady).
