Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Crivello scores twice in 4-2 win over Skidmore

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Freshman Vincent Crivello (Rosemere, Quebec) scored his first two collegiate goals in Nichols College's 4-2 win over Skidmore College Saturday night in the season opener for both schools in non-conference men's ice hockey action at Levy Rink.

Sophomore Blake Kelley (Woodbury, Minn.) broke a two-all tie at 16:56 of the third and junior Colin Brennan (Chester, N.J.) turned aside 30 shots. The Bison outshot the Thoroughbreds 36-32 but took eight minor penalties that led to power-play goals by freshmen Sam Loizeaux (Pawling, N.Y.) and Owen Campbell (Foxboro, Mass.).

Crivello took a long outlet pass from junior Scott Cuthrell (Watertown, Mass.) and broke in alone short-handed for the game's first goal, beating Skidmore senior goalie Jack McDonald (King City, Ontario) with a backhand shot along the ice at 3:47 of the first. Loizeaux's tally from freshman Tim Allen (Smithfield, R.I.) at 17:58 of the stanza tied the game.

Crivello's second of the contest 4:21 into the second gave the Bison a 2-1 lead, but Campbell's goal at 14:06 send the game into the second intermission tied at two. Kelley gave Nichols the lead for good at 16:56 of the third as he capitalized on a Skidmore turnover in its own end of the ice. Freshman Jeffery Baker (Columbia, Md.) potted his first collegiate goal into the empty net at 18:53 of the third with assists going to senior captain Michael Parnell (Roseville, Minn.) and Brennan to seal the win.

McDonald made 32 saves for Skidmore.

All-Time Series
Tonight's contest marked the sixth all-time meeting between Nichols College and Skidmore College. The Bison have won the last two contests in 'The Ocean State' and lead the series, 4-2.

Quotes
"This was a greasy game. There was a lot of running around. Our guys didn't do a very good job adjusting to the new rules. The referees are clamping down on a lot of things and we took a lot of penalties. We can't do that and be successful. We snuck away with one tonight. The effort was there, but we have to work on our composure and our discipline." –Nichols head coach Parker Burgess

"The message to Colin was just to give us a chance to win, and he did that. Both of the goals he allowed were power play goals that he didn't have much of a chance on. He made some good saves for us and kept us in there." –Burgess, on the play of Brennan

"It was pretty exciting. I just wanted to get the feel for my first college hockey game, and the next thing I know, Scotty sends me in on a breakaway. I just let my instincts take over and I was able to get it into the back of the net. On my second goal, our power play was moving the puck well and (Ben) Campbell fed me a backdoor pass and I was able to sneak it in." –Nichols freshman Vincent Crivelo, on his first two collegiate goals
