BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Nichols College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to UNE in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Â
The Nor'easters outshot the Bison 22-4 on the afternoon – including a 13-1 margin after the intermission.
Â
Senior Anna Michaud (Hampden, Maine) scored in the first half and freshman Peyton Janelle (Biddeford, Maine) tallied in the final minute to make up the scoring for UNE which remains unbeaten in CCC-play.
Â
The Nor'easters received all the scoring they would need for victory in the 30th minute on a set piece. Senior Katelyn Pierson (Saco, Maine) found Michaud breaking down the left side and Michaud lofted a left-footed high shot from 20 yards out just inside the far post.
Â
UNE peppered sophomore goaltender
Brooke Downey (Middleboro, Mass.) in the second half but was unable to pad its lead until the final minute when Janelle cleaned up a rebound of a shot by senior Jessica Meader (Scarborough, Maine) that Downey had made a brilliant stop on. The marker was Janelle's first collegiate goal.
Â
Junior
Ashley Cibotti (Norton, Mass.) paced the Bison with two of the team's four shots while classmate
Taylor Souza (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman
Nicole Gidley (Dartmouth, Mass.) also recorded shots.
Â
Downey made 12 stops in the loss while senior Brielle Robinson (Monson, Mass.) made two saves in her 20th career shutout.
