Nichols 3, Eastern Nazarene 2 (2OT)
Dudley, Mass. – Nichols Soccer Field
Saturday, September 12, 2015

All-Time Series & Streaks
The Bison have now won the last nine meetings against the Lions. Nichols holds the series edge at 18-9-3.

Three Stars of the Game/Match
1 – Freshman Zach Pina (North Attleboro, Mass.) (Nichols) – game-winning goal in the second overtime
2 – Senior Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) (Nichols) – 6 saves
3 – Sophomore Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) (ENC) – 1 goal, 9 shots (5 SOG)

Keys Stat of the Game
The Bison are 5-0-4 in their last nine overtime games with the last loss coming in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinal against Western New England in 2013.

Turning Point
With less than four minutes remaining in the second overtime, Nelson broke away from the Bison defense. Geas challenged him just inside the 18 and slid to make the save and one minute later Pina scored the game-winner.

Quick Hits
Junior captain David Melanson (Simsbury, Conn.) scored his third goal of the season to put the Bison up 1-0. He took a pass from the corner from freshman William Aldrich (Belchertown, Mass.) and then blasted a one-timer that went through the hands and legs of the goaltender.
Nelson tied things at a goal apiece in the 36th minute when he took a free kick from 30 yards out that looped over Geas and into the net.
Six minutes into the second half, Nichols took the lead when Melanson's corner kick landed at the feet of a Lions defender whose clear attempt went into the goal for an own-goal.
Freshman Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) tied things up with less than nine minutes to go in regulation on an assist from classmate Connor Hudson-Bryant (Weymouth, Mass.).
Following an amazing save from Geas, the Bison moved the ball into Lions territory. Freshman Jameson Exil (Paul Prince, Haiti) crossed the ball into the box where Pina made an acrobatic stop to control the ball at his feet before sending a shot into the lower left corner of the net.
Geas stopped six shots in his second win of the season while junior Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) made seven saves in defeat.

Quotes
"Our goal is to keep improving. We had some mishaps in the game which cost us on several occasions but it was an incredible finish. Geas made a game-changing save there in the end and Pina had a tremendous effort on the goal to win it. Having such a young program, making sure we come away with a win in our first conference game is paramount for us moving forward." – Nichols head coach Chris Traina
"The game was a battle but we do not lose on our home field as everyone has seen over the last few years. Moving forward we just need to keep battling and not be satisfied." – Senior captain Alex Geas
