Bane becomes all-time goals leader in loss at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – Nichols College senior Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to become the men's lacrosse program's all-time goal scoring leader in a 15-7 loss at Roger Williams University Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Bayside Field.

Bane – who scored a career-high 43 goals this season – finishes his career with 129 goals, which is two more than David French (1972-76). Freshman MacKenzie Martin (Merrimack, N.H.) also potted two goals for the Bison (6-10, 0-8 CCC) while senior Corey Davis (Wakefield, Mass.) went for a goal and an assist in the season finale.

Will Siefert scored a game-high five goals to pace the Hawks (12-4, 6-2 CCC). Junior Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) and senior Mike Hanna (Somers, Conn.) each struck twice while freshman Jon Gomer (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Eric Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) each recorded a goal and an assist.

RWU led 5-0 after one as Gomer, Hanna, and Gagnon each scored their first of the evening. Hanna's second of the game, followed by a pair from Siefert, pushed the Hawks lead to 8-0 before Bane netted a man-up goal at 11:18 of the second to pass French for the scoring record.

Siefert scored two more before the half closed to give the Hawks a 12-2 lead at the break. Nichols opened the third with three-straight markers – including two from McKenzie at 10:44 and 5:23, respectively – to close the game to 12-5. Goals from Siefert and Valenti at 3:36 and 1:59 of the third, respectively, restored RWU's 10 goal lead heading to the fourth.

Nichols was outshot 51-32 and converted on two of its seven man-up chances. Senior Sean Coates (Grafton, Mass.) and junior Darby Geno (White River Junction, Vt.) led all NC student-athletes (non-goalie) with five ground balls each. Sophomore Kevin D'Angelo (Pelham, N.H.) won four of his six face-off attempts.

The Hawks will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and host Wentworth Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
