UNE rallies past Nichols, 10-5

DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Tyler Sikich (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) scored two goals in Nichols College's 10-5 loss to UNE in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Vendetti Field.

Freshman James Keane (Franklin, Mass.) recorded 17 saves and junior Anthony Verville (Portland, Maine) racked up a goal and an assist as the Bison slipped to 4-6 on the season (0-4 CCC). Sophomore Dan Auger (Nashua, N.H.) potted three goals for the Nor'easters (5-6, 2-2 CCC).

UNE scored the only goal of the first quarter when Connor Leggett (Sunderland, Vt.) scored his third of the season at 11:42. Goals from Sikich and Verville in the opening 2:59 of the second gave the Bison a 2-1 lead before junior Sam Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) netted his 17th to tie the game at two. Sikich closed the half with his 11th of the season with 3:08 left in the half to give NC a 3-2 lead at the break.

Sophomore Dylan Baer (Webster, N.H.) doubled the Bison lead with his fourth 4:42 into the third, but the Nor'easters ripped off four-straight goals to grab a 6-4 lead early in the fourth. Auger and sophomore Remy Watt (Merrimack, N.H.) each struck twice during the run.

Junior Brian Hancock (Groton, Mass.) stopped the run with his 14th of the season at 11:45 to cut his team's deficit to 6-5. Auger completed his hat trick less than four minutes later, and another from Cloutier and two from sophomore Keston Beauregard (Pelham, N.H.) scored down the stretch for UNE to secure its win.

Senior Sean Coates (Grafton, Mass.) and junior Darby Geno (White River Junction, Vt.) each collected four ground balls to lead Nichols. Senior Steven Hughes (Flemington, N.J.), along with sophomores Philip Young (Unionville, Pa.) and Chris Harlow (Boston, Mass.), each gathered four to lead UNE, which outshot Nichols 41-30.

Sophomore David Pearson (Scarborough, Maine) stopped eight shots in relief to earn his third win of the season.

Nichols plays at Wentworth Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Nor'easters play New England College Saturday at 1 p.m.
