Saints fast start defeats Bison, 17-7

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Olivia Morawski (Fairfield, Conn.) scored two goals as the Nichols College women's lacrosse team fell 17-7 to Emmanuel (MA) in non-conference action Monday evening at Roberto Clemente Field.

Seniors Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) and Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) each potted two goals while freshman Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) scored one as the Bison fall to 4-9 on the year.

The Saints (10-3) were led by four players with hat tricks including sophomore Emily Baker (Stratham, N.H.) with five goals, senior Madison Altwies (Southington, Conn.) with four goals, and juniors Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) and Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) each with three.

Nichols kicked off the scoring on the Bison's opening drive.  Bufis netted her first just 40 seconds into the game. The Saints quickly tied things up on Baker's first marker at 26:40. Higgins would then score twice unassisted and the Saints would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the night.

Emmanuel outshot the Bison 18-6 in the first half on their way to a 9-4 lead at the break. The Saints did not rest to start the second half, opening up the half with the first four goals to take a commanding 13-4 lead. O'Connell and Morawski represented the three goals in the second stanza for the Bison.

Sophomore Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) took the loss after stopping six shots through 52:29 while freshman Jacqueline Hogue (North Grafton, Mass.) made no saves in the final 7:20. Junior Lauren White (Lynnfield, Mass.) made nine saves in the win.

The Bison travel to take on Framingham State on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The Saints finish up their regular season on Wednesday when they play host to Rivier at 7:00 p.m.
