Bison move to 7-1-1 in conference with 3-2 win at Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Paul Prescott (Oakdale, Minn.) recorded a goal and two assists to help the Nichols College men's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over Suffolk University in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast action Saturday night at Steriti Rink.

Junior Frank Butler (East Haven, Conn.) potted the game-winning goal – his team-leading 12th of the season – late in the second period and added an assist to send the Bison (15-3-2, 7-1-1 ECAC Northeast) to their fourth win in a row.

The Rams held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play behind sophomore Stanton Turner's (San Francisco, Calif.) 12th marker of the season at 6:42. Prescott knotted the game at one with a power-play goal1:44 into the second.

Later in the second, the Bison struck for two goals in 60 seconds to grab a 3-1 lead. Junior Sean Fleming (Easthampton, N.J.) netted his seventh of the season at 14:34 to put Nichols ahead for good before Butler's game-winner at 15:34.

Suffolk sophomore Simon Leahy's (Milwaukee, Wis.) goal with 2:41 to play in regulation sliced the host Rams (10-8-1, 4-3-1 ECAC Northeast) deficit to one, but Suffolk could not net the equalizer during the final 48 seconds of play with the extra skater.

Seniors Mike Schiavone (Chicago, Ill.) and Kyle Shapiro (Ambler, Pa.) registered helpers as well for the Bison, who are 9-1-1 overall in the last two calendar months of play. Shapiro appeared in his 100th career game this evening. 

Leahy also recorded an assist for the Rams, who received single assists off the sticks of junior Mike Cherpak (Enfield, Conn.) and sophomore Danyil Medvedev (Boston, Mass.).

Junior Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) stopped 27 of 29 shots to pick up his 13th win of the season in goal for Nichols, while junior Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) made 26 stops in the setback for Suffolk as each team had 29 shots on goal for the contest.

Nichols hosts Wentworth in a rematch of last season's ECAC Northeast championship Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. The Rams host Western New England Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
