Quotes"The first 20 minutes were terrible. We came out pretty flat. It was a little frustrating. They really took it to us. We were undisciplined. We took some penalties and shot ourselves in the foot. Alex stood on his head and kept us in there, otherwise it could have been three-or-four to nothing. Our penalty kill stepped up as well. We killed off that five-minute major. We settled in and regrouped after the first period, and then played the best 40 minutes of hockey we've played all season. We grinded them down. We established a cycle. We got pucks to the net and then took pucks to the net. We have some big bodies and, in the first, they were perimeter players. We started getting our noses dirty and getting to those dirty areas in the second and third. That's the kind of team that we are." – Nichols head coach
Parker BurgessÂ
"It's a monkey-off-the-back type thing. These guys have been looked to for four years to be offensive threats. When it doesn't come right away, you start to press a little bit and grip the stick a little bit too tight. It's nice for them to get the goose eggs off the board and now they can get rolling. They're still helping our team win even when they're not producing offensively, and that's something we've really stressed." – Burgess on the seniors (Beasley, Butler) scoring their first goals of the season
Â
"It's nice for both our young defensemen and the coaches to know Larson is back there. He is just so calm and composed back there. It really helps our young guys. And to be honest, we're pretty deep on defense. We've had nine D play already and the guys who haven't played yet can definitely step in and do a good job for us. We're lucky that we have a lot of depth back there. Everyone is playing well and it's just tough to find ice for everybody right now. We do a system that's a little bit different than a lot of teams and they're all learning. They're buying in and we're starting to see results." –Burgess, on how Larson helps his young defense
