No. 8 Amherst downs Nichols, 8-1

HARRISVILLE, R.I. - Junior Samantha Mead (Hazen, N.D.) scored her first collegiate goal in a 8-1 loss to No. 8 Amherst College in non-conference women's ice hockey action Tuesday night at Levy Rink.

Senior Lisa Coskren (Norwood, Mass.) was credited with the primary assist on Mead's marker. Freshman Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) recorded 41 saves for the Bison (4-10-0), who were outshot 49-12.

Freshman Emma Griese (Toronto, Ontario) racked up a goal and three assists for the Lord Jeffs. Senior Tori Salmon (Batavia, N.Y.) scored twicewhile junior Erin Martin (Canton, Mass.) picked up a goal and two assists.

The Lord Jeffs (11-1-3) led 3-0 after one as Martin set up two of the three markers. They scored three more in the second as Griese and Salmon each found the back of the net, and tacked on two more in the third before Mead's bomb from the left point got the Bison on the board.

Sophomore Yuna Evans (East Haven, Conn.) played the first 20 minutes between the pipes for Amherst and recorded one save to earn her sixth win of the season. Freshman Bailey Plaman (Bloomington, Minn.) manned the creased for the final two periods and was credited with 10 saves.

The Bison host UNE Friday at 6:430 p.m. The Lord Jeffs host Salve Regina next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
