Bison fall 58-0 to Colonials

DANBURY, Conn. – Junior captain Connor Richard (Londonderry, N.H.) posted six tackles as the Nichols College football team fell to Western Connecticut State 58-0 Saturday afternoon at The WAC.

Senior Felipe Njeim (Stoughton, Mass.) rushed for 77 yards on 15 carries, including a 36 yard scamper early in the fourth quarter. Freshman Jarvis Harris (Houston, Texas) led the Bison with 56 yards receiving (four receptions) while senior Brett Franciosi (Leominster, Mass.) had 116 return yards for the game.

Defensively, Richard led all Bison with his six tackles - including two for a loss - while freshman Brett McEvoy (Wrentham, Mass.) picked up a sack to go along with his three tackles. Sophomore defensive lineman William Contois (Palmer, Mass.) tallied three tackles for the game while also forcing and recovering a fumble in the second quarter.

Senior Tory Mack (Stratford, Conn.) carried the ball 17 times for 252 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Colonials. Mack scored on runs 37, two, 38 and 54 yards as the Colonials evened their record at 1-1 on the young season. Three of his touchdowns came before intermission as Western raced out to a 37-0 bulge at the break.

With 4:35 remaining in the first quarter, Western's Bobby Durham (New Haven, Conn.) returned a blocked Connor Haynes (Sutton, Mass.) 21-yard field goal attempt back 81 yards to give his team a 13-0 advantage. Agbaeze Sampson (West Haven, Conn.) was credited with the blocked field-goal try.

Michael Killoran (West Hartford, Conn.) then booted a 24 yard field goal with 1:09 left in the first stanza. On the day, Killoran was 7-of-8 on extra point attempts for a total of 10 points.

With 6:09 remaining in the game, junior runningback Andrew Cirino (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored from six yards out. A kick through the uprights by Killoran closed out the scoring on the day.

Both junior captain Quillian Respass (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Bryan Hummel (Dedham, Mass.) completed 4-of-10 passes and were intercepted once. Respectively, they connected for 65 and 58 yards.

The Bison are home for Homecoming next Saturday against Becker at 1:00 p.m. at Vendetti Field. The Colonials host Plymouth State next Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
