Late goal sends Salve Regina past Bison, 1-0

Box Score

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Sophomore Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) made a career-high 48 saves in Nichols College's 1-0 loss at Salve Regina University Monday night in Eastern College Athletic Conference (EACC) Northeast action at Portsmouth Abbey Rink.

The loss snapped the Bison's three-game win streak and marked just the second time this season they were held without a goal. The Seahawks (10-13-0, 8-4-0 ECAC Northeast) outshot the Bison in each period and finished with a 49-30 edge for the game.

Salve Regina (10-13-0, 8-4-0 ECAC Northeast) scored the lone goal of the game at 15:01 of the third period when sophomore Marc Biggs (Plano, Texas) skated down the left side and wristed a shot through Larson.

SRU sophomore David Chiokadze (Langhorne, Pa.) registered 30 saves en route to his first shutout of the season. Each team killed off a five-minute major in the first period.

Nichols best scoring chances in the third came. The first came from junior Joe Sposit (Cleveland, Ohio), who chased down a loose puck along the right wing boards and was stopped on a partial breakaway. Later in the stanza, junior Kyle Shapiro (Ambler, Pa.) took a pass on a 2-on-1 in the slot and had a wide-open net staring back at him, but Seahawks freshman defenseman Trace Redmond (Dallas, Texas) reached out and got his stick on Shapiro's shot, deflecting the puck over the glass.

The Bison host Johnson & Wales (RI) Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. at Levy Rink. Salve Regina hosts Western New England Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
