Sean Swansen (Salem, N.H.) scored his second goal of the season and junior
Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) made 38 saves in Nichols College's 1-1 tie with Manhattanville in non-conference men's ice hockey action Saturday night at Playland Ice Casino.
The Bison entered the contest having dropped all four previous meetings with the Valiants – including an 8-5 decision last season at Levy Rink. The tie moves them to 6-2-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first period, Nichols opened the scoring at 3:33 of the second when Swansen took a pass from junior
Sean Fleming (Easthampton, N.Y.) and beat junior netminder Kurt Williams (Rockey Mountain House, Alberta) for a 1-0 lead. The Valiants tied the score later in the stanza on sophomore Nolan Marshall's (Drumheller, Alberta) second marker of the season at 17:07.
The two goalies did the rest. Larson made a combined nine saves in the third period and overtime to move his record to 5-1-2. Williams, meanwhile, stopped 11 in the third and closed his night with 32 saves. Nichols failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage while Manhattanville was 0-for-6 on the PP.
The Bison host Castleton January 2 at 6:40 p.m. Manhattanville hosts Curry Sunday at 7 p.m.
