Box Score MILTON, Mass. – Junior
Tyler Beasley (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored a pair of third period power-play goals in Nichols College's 4-1 win at Curry College Saturday night in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) action at Max Ulin Rink.
Senior
Kyle Shapiro (Ambler, Pa.) racked up a goal and two assists and junior
Francesco Posillico (Massapequa, N.Y.) dished out a pair of assists as the Bison improved to 3-0-0 for the second time in three seasons under head coach
Kevin Swallow. Junior and reigning ECAC Goaltender of the Week
Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) stopped 40 of the 41 shots he faced.
At the 7:19 minute mark of the first, Curry sophomore Tyler Vankleef (Dundas, Ontario) was called for a high-sticking penalty. Sophomore
Mike Weaver (Wakefield, Mass.) made the Colonels pay for the penalty, potting his first of the season 27 second into the man advantage with a shot over the shoulder of Curry senior netminder Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.). Posillico and senior
Chris Gularte (Salinas, Calif.) were credited with the assists.
Nichols extended its least to 2-0 at 7:59 of the second period on Shapiro's first of the season from just inside the blue line. Posillico and senior
Mike Schwartz (Long Beach, N.Y.) assisted on the play. The Colonels answered back five minutes later to cut their deficit in half. Freshman Phil Kiss (Burlington, Ontario) earned his first goal of the season after collecting a loose puck in front of the net and sending it past Larson. Sophomores Jake Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Dan McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) had the assists.
The Bison went 2-for-3 on the power play in the third to seal the win. Beasley's first goal was a one-timer off a feed from junior
Paul Prescott (Oakdale, Minn.) at 9:10. His fourth of the season was off a nifty feed from junior
Frank Butler (East Haven, Conn.), who took a pass from Shapiro and, while parked in front of the net, slid the puck to Beasley at the side for the easy tap-in.
Curry went 0-6 with the man advantage while Nichols was 3-7. The Colonels outshot the Bison 41-28. Mohney made 24 saves in net and fell to 0-2-0.
Nichols returns to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Becker. The Colonels play at Western New England on Thursday at 7:10 p.m.
