Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) scored on the power play late in the third period as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team fell to Stevenson 5-1 Saturday afternoon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
Bufis's goal – marking her sixth point in the last five games – came at 19:19 of the third period on a pass from senior
Lisa Coskren (Norwood, Mass.) that she was able to best junior goaltender Sarah Modzelewski (Bloomington, Ind.) to prevent the shutout.
The Mustangs (5-2-0) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first stanza before adding two more in the second period. Junior Katie Abbott (Royal Oak, Mich.) potted two goals for the second consecutive game while juniors Madison Lange (Califon, N.J.), Tori Emoff (Oakwood, Ohio), and Jessie Capanelli (Lancaster, Pa.) added goals.
Nichols was outshot 37-20 and was led by senior
Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) with five shots. Freshman Chelsea Blackburn (Westland, Mich.) paced the Mustangs with seven shots.

Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) took the loss after allowing all five goals and stopping 27 shots through two periods. Senior
Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) stopped all five shots she faced after playing the entire third period. Modzelewski improves to 3-1-0 on the year after making 19 saves on the afternoon.
The Bison travel to take on Bowdoin for their last game before the holiday break on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The Mustangs play at the University of New England on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
